CHVRCHES dropped a new original song today called “Warning Call”. Over the past few weeks each band member had hinted about a new project and today it was released. The new track will be featured in the upcoming video game Mirror’s Edge Catalyst due out June 7th in North America and June 9th in Europe.
Lauren Mayberry wrote the lyrics from Faith’s perspective as the lead character of this game. An excerpt from Pitchfork added, “We were honored to be asked to contribute to the soundtrack for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, the band's Iain Cook said in a press release. The sound of CHVRCHES’ music resonates with the minimalist sci-fi dystopia of the Mirror’s Edge world, and we feel that the song complements the drama, emotion and empowering themes of Faith's story.” Listen to the track below and let us know what you think.

“Whenever we work on a new song, it's of paramount importance that we find the right balance between the various elements in the track and instrumentation. Whether it's the tension between brighter melodies and darker lyrics, or sparking synths and gritty production, it’s a signature of what we do. We worked hard to get the right combination of those things for Empty Threat, and in the end we managed to find the sweet spot that captures the essence of CHVRCHES.” - CHVRCHES Get tickets for all upcoming CHVRCHES shows at: http://chvrch.es/shows/ Pre-order Every Open Eye at: http://chvrch.es Get tickets for CHVRCHES upcoming tour at: http://chvrch.es/shows
Earlier today CHVRCHES unveiled the official video for “Leave A Trace” from their upcoming sophomore album Every Open Eye due out September 25th!
The first single off the new album was described by Lauren Mayberry as “the nastiest, snidest tune” on the record. She recently told Pitchfork, “‘Leave A Trace’ is the middle finger mic-drop. It’s about that point where you’re like, there’s no point having this conversation anyways: There will be no resolve, I won’t feel better about it, you won’t feel better about it, no outcome from this will actually change my reality. It makes me feel better to write about that — I’ve done something constructive with it. You don’t put that on other people, you put that into what you do. That’s always the way I’ve written lyrics. My ex-partners are not friends with me, but I’m OK with that.” This atmospherically dark video and matching lyrics contrast beautifully with Mayberry’s voice and the pounding synths coming from band mates Iain Cook and Martin Doherty.
