Frightened Rabbit have announced the upcoming release of Tiny Changes, a 10th anniversary covers album of The Midnight Organ Fight featuring the likes of Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES, Biffy Clyro, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, The Twilight Sad, Julien Baker and many more. The covers album, Tiny Changes: A Celebration Of The Midnight Organ Fight is due out July 12, 2019. Pre-order it here.

A mental health charity sharing the same name as the album, Tiny Changes, was launched by the family of Frightened Rabbit’s late lead singer Scott Hutchinson who took his own life last May after battling depression. Hutchinson helped put this compilation of covers together before his passing. A portion of the proceeds from Tiny Changes’ sales will benefit the charity.

CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry Helps Launch Connect Live for Glasgow & Clyde Rape Crisis Centre

Ahead of CHVRCHES’ homecoming show at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland on Saturday, February 16th, lead singer Lauren Mayberry was already busy hours before showtime helping launch Connect Live for the Glasgow & Clyde Rape Crisis Centre.

Mayberry, a patron for the centre, previously helped spearhead a fundraiser for their 40th anniversary back in 2016. Now, almost two years later more women than ever are seeking support from the centre.

Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre manager Isabelle Kerr told the Herald Scotland, “In the last two years, the centre has fielded almost 30,000 calls, texts and emails from survivors of rape, domestic abuse and other forms of sexual trauma in and around Glasgow.”

Kerr and staff along with Mayberry launched the new project, Connect Live, which will be open daily from 11 AM – 2 PM and Monday through Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30 PM. This service will allow anyone contacting Connect Live to speak to centre staff directly for live support.

Mayberry said, “I don’t view things like rape crisis as optional services. It’s not negotiable whether that is available to society, and it’s not just for women either.”

If you would like to help support this project please donate through Just Giving. Donations will help the centre adapt to changing technology and help train new volunteer staff.

There have been countless great memories from this year but without further ado continue reading below to see our Lauren Mayberry top ten moments of 2018. Thank you for being such a great role model and inspiration to many.

10. CHVRCHES sponsor Whitburn Junior FC. The band stepped in to sponsor Iain Cook’s hometown junior team with a sharp looking away strip featuring the bands logo. Even more exciting was the collaboration between the band and team to put these jerseys on sale for a limited run to the public after the outpouring of interest from fans worldwide.

8. CHVRCHES left us in awe with their latest cover songs this year. Call us biased but they make some of the best cover songs out there with their own unique take on songs. This year the band dazzled us with covers of “Somebody Else” by The 1975, “XO” by Beyonce, “Stay” by Rihanna, “Love” by Kendrick Lamar and “The Downtown Lights” by The Blue Nile.

7. CHVRCHES were nominated for the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVA Best Rock Alternative Artist or Group this year. Although they didn’t win, they are still the winners in our hearts. One of these days the music industry will realize how great this band is and the awards will follow.

6. CHVRCHES always pop up on video game soundtracks and this year was no different. The band was featured on Forza Horizon 4 with “Never Say Die” and on Rock Band 4 with “Graffiti”.

5. Lauren Mayberry and CHVRCHES worked on a variety of new collaborations in 2018. For the first time in the bands history they had a guest singer involved on the track “My Enemy” featuring their friend Matt Berninger of The National. Later in the year Mayberry joined The National on stage at ACL Festival for their song “Guilty Party”. In August CHVRCHES dropped a surprise single called “Out Of My Head” featuring Wednesday Campanella and Mayberry was featured on the new Death Cab for Cutie album Thank You for Today contributing some beautiful backing vocals on the track “Northern Lights”.

4. During the summer CHVRCHES made a stop in Berlin, Germany at the legendary Hansa Studios and recorded some beautiful acoustic renditions of tracks from Love Is Dead which was released digitally and on vinyl as the Hansa Session EP.

3. CHVRCHES made the rounds on national and international television shows throughout the year. Watch performances of “Get Out” on Sounds Like Friday Night, “Miracle” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, “Get Out” and “Miracle” on ZDF Aspekte, “Miracle” and “The Mother We Share” on The Zoe Ball Show, “Get Out”, “Graves”, “Never Say Die” and “Graffiti” on Jimmy Kimmel Live and “Miracle” on The Ellen Show.

2. CHVRCHES stepped in to sponsor the Girls Rock Glasgow Summer School. Being a patron for the school allowed the camp to proceed with plans and offer more places than ever before. The band continues to support these efforts at local Girls Rock locations throughout the world when they tour by teaming up with PLUS1 to donate $1 from every concert ticket sold. It’s heartwarming to see the band work with so many different organizations to help others through charity, donations, sponsorship's and more.

CHVRCHES Step in to Sponsor the Girls Rock Glasgow Summer School
Photo: Girls Rock Glasgow
Yesterday CHVRCHES announced they have become a patron for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Summer School for Girls Glasgow after hearing previous funding for the camp had fallen through. This summer camp will teach local girls aged 8-16 years how to rock out. Coming at just the right time, Girls Rock Glasgow said the sponsorship will enable them to move forward with plans and offer more places than ever before. The full announcement from CHVRCHES’ lead singer Lauren Mayberry can be read below.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Summer School for Girls Glasgow will take place from July 14-22, 2018 at Kinning Park Complex and Empire Studios. For more information regarding applications to attend or volunteering opportunities please visit Girls Rock Glasgow.

At the time of writing it has not been confirmed if the band will be appearing or teaching at the summer school however their currently listed concert schedule suggests they may be visiting.

We are excited to be supporting @girlsrockglasgow, a really valuable community project that will be teaching local girls how to rock out at their camp this summer. Growing up, I didn't know many other girls playing in bands. If I hadn't seen awesome and inspiring women in bands that I loved - Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Garbage, Sleater-Kinney - then it would never have occurred to me that maybe one day I could do that. I have hardly ever seen a female sound engineer in a venue, locally or internationally, and you hardly ever see women headlining festivals. Let's change that by helping Girls Rock Glasgow teach young women that they can be anything they want to be. Link to find out more in bio.
